What is a gobo?

Gobos are patterns for lights, and come in a wide range of sizes. There are about 40 common sizes of gobo and additional custom sizes available as well. Gobo sizes are typically given a letter designation (i.e. "L" or "B").

A gobo is a stainless steel or glass-etched cutout, that when placed in a pattern projecting light fixture will project that image onto a wall or other flat surface.

Below is an example of two fixtures with gobos. The fixture on the left shows a rose pattern gobo in place, and the fixture on the right shows a nicer fixture with a custom design gobo sandwiched inside of a gobo holder for easy accessibility.

Gobos by themselves will typically project a black and white image. You can add color to the image by adding color gel to the front of your pattern projector, or by ordering a colored glass gobo.

You can send in your own artwork to create your own corporate image if you so desire. The results are astounding and typically "light up" a darkened room.

Sometimes, one may want to project an image in a brightly lit meeting hall or outside where it is sunny. This is almost impossible to do because of the competing brightness. For best results, project your image in a darkened area.

When projected from a distance, you can make your image quite large. An entire ballroom or tent ceiling can be covered with images using just a few of our pattern projectors placed in optimal locations. Remember that when projecting at an angle, there may be some distortion of the image, but when using easily recognized images, such as stars, flowers or tree branches, an entire large area can be covered with surprisingly good effect!

Gobo Sizes:
There are many sizes of gobos available. Be sure to specify which size you desire when ordering. Here are the outside diameters of our most popular sizes. The size code is followed by the designation "R" for round and "S" for square. For instance, a size B round, would be "BR". Round is by far the most popular, if you do not specifiy "R" or "S", we will asume that you want a round and stamp it that way.
